Richard Beale (Roma Numismatics) Arrested

Whenever I see an expression starting with "first" and followed by multiple qualifiers I start to think "hype".

Richard Beale (Roma Numismatics) seems to have problems way beyond that.   I just searched the forum for his name, and found this fairly old topic. Apparently he was arrested in New York City earlier this year. "Beale has been charged with Grand Larceny in the First Degree and Second Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the First Degree and Second Degree, Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree, and Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree."

Oh dear sounds like a budding Trevor Ashmore, he started as a legitimate dealer then started to supply his own forged coins when his supplies ran dry.

Very interesting story, the coin was then returned to Greece in late March 2023.

News from a BBC article published on 27 August, with a minor update yesterday:

"A British auctioneer who was at the centre of a BBC investigation has pleaded guilty at a New York court to a series of charges in connection with unlawful sales of rare ancient coins. Richard Beale, director of London-based auction house Roma Numismatics, admitted two counts of conspiracy and three counts of criminal possession of stolen property, court documents show."
