The reverse design is a copy of the coronation crown of 1953, where the date was in the same place.

I see. It's probably a bit easier to see on the large crown coin.

I'm losing sight of what this 2022 coin is supposed to represent.

Thanks! Admittedly some of those designs look so familiar that I could not tell whether a "new" one is a copy of an older one, or some variation.

The design elements on that side represent, CoA wise, England (Plantagenet, two times), Scotland (Stuart), and Northern Ireland. Plus the plants (thistle, rose, leek, shamrock). Interestingly, one of the design alternatives, or maybe "the" alternative, would have been busier but with a more easily recognizable date.
