Since the feller has support from a shepherd's crook, which explains the sheep, "reclining into work" might be more appropriate. Or maybe he's just daydreaming of shepherd's pie, not realising that his wife will break his crook on his head for going to work in his Sunday finery.

Yeah, a bit overdressed for a shepherd. I do doubt that he's married though.. wouldn't be so elegantly dressed if he were.
