Delhi Sultans: Lodi or Suri fractional copper ?
« on: May 01, 2013, 09:44:24 PM »
This is a tiny copper 10 mm, 2.23 gr. Online references fore these small coppers are scarce. Also these coins show only a variable fraction of the inscription of a larger die which makes attribution troublesome. Other examples were recently discussed in among others this topic : http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,21093.msg142873.html

In style this might fit with both a Lodi 1/4 Tanka, or a Suri 1/8 Paisa i think. I don't get much further to decide in an attribution. Any ideas on this ?

Thanks for you confirmation.
In your reply in the other thread you had nicely indicated the part of the inscription in the bigger coin where Vic's fractional specimen originated. I  looked at this, but was in doubt if i could pinpoint the part which is visible in my specimen.

Regards,

Anthony

Here joined a small sketch to illustrate Ansari's reading of your coin,
(on left picture, a good part of "Bahlul" is also visible)
"All I know is that I know nothing" (Socrates)

Yes, Its strange as on the reverse there should be usual formula 'Fi Zaman' formula.

The possible "Bahlul" is interesting. And revealing that i still lack very much in reading Arabic. I had initially interpreted this as "amir".  :-\
I did'nt find this combination yet in any reference.

Thanks for your efforts !

Yes Tariq, thank you for the correction; this coin shows on a face : "..Sikander Sultan..." and on the other face, the mint place : "Dehli" (and not Bahlol ...)
