Russian platinum coins
« on: January 03, 2008, 09:11:43 PM »
My favorite Russian coins I cannot afford. The Russians had a large stock of platinum on their hands, a metal considered worthless because of its high melting point and hardness. In an effort to sell it, they experimented with platinum coins, striking a whole series that failed immediately, because the public couldn't distinguish platinum from silver, so in the end, the Russians shrug and continued considering platinum worthless ;D

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.
