Yorkshire Woollen District Transport was established in Dewsbury in 1934 as a successor to Yorkshire Electric Tramways Woollen District. The company was eventually renamed Yorkshire buses. The company was nationalised in 1969, privatised by management buy-out and on-sold to Caldaire Holdings in 1987. In 1995, it was purchased by British Bus. The company ceased to exist when it was acquired by the Arriva group in 1997 and renamed Arriva Yorkshire West Ltd..
