SELNEC
SELNEC is an acronym for "South East Lancashire North East Cheshire". It was established by the Transport Act 1968, which created Passenger Transport Executives (PTE). From 1969 to 1974, it was the responsible body for public transport in a wide area around Manchester. It replaced the token-issuing Transport Councils of:
and five Transport Councils that did not issue tokens or had ceased issuing them. When the Local Government Act 1972 created the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester, SELNEC was succeeded by GMPTE, the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive.
In line with the trend created by the Transport Act 1968, SELNEC issued one token, for an unspecified concessionary tariff for pensioners. This was a continuation of a Manchester Council Transport policy, supported by a brass token. The SELNEC token turned out to be a precursor of the National Transport Tokens.
