French influence telephone tokens
The tokens listed here are from French colonies and protectorates and from independent countries that are former French colonies and protectorates. The mint marks are an indication of where the token was produced only. Engraver marks narrow down the time period in which the token was produced.
Note that the word used for telephone on the Algerian and Tunisian tokens is the official الهاتف - al-Hatef. On the tokens from Israel, the colloquial, phonetic rendition from English تلفون is used.
The RJ mark on TIA1 could be for Paris mint chief engraver Raymond Joly. Since he could use an owl while in office, he may have produced the dies while retired (1974-2006), but a earlier date is also quite possible, since the federation of Cameroon was replaced by a unitary state in 1972
