The Bradford Corporation started a tramway system in 1882, called Bradford City Tramways. Horse-drawn trams were replaced by steam-driven trams in 1883, and by electric vehicles in 1898. On 20 June 1911, Britain's first trolleybus systems opened simultaneously in Bradford, between Laisterdyke and Dudley Hill, and in Leeds. The operating company changed name from Bradford Corporation Passenger Transport to Bradford City Transport in 1952. The last trolleybus service in Bradford — and Britain — ceased operation on 26 March 1972. On 1st April 1974, Bradford City Transport was merged with other municipal transport companies, to form the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (WYPTE)
