Örebro Stads Gasverk was built in 1860 and run by Örebro Gas Belysningsbolag (Örebro Gas Lighting Company) a private company until 1902 when it was taken over by the city council becoming Örebro Stads Gasverk (Örebro City Gasworks). From 1860 it produced its gas from coal, changing over to an oil splitting plant in 1962 and finally closing in 1980.
