The West Yorkshire Public Transport Executive (WYPTE) was formed in the framework of the Local Government Act (1972) at the same time as the district of West Yorkshire on 1 April 1974. WYPTE was succeeded by (West Yorkshire) Metro on 1st April 2014, so that network and network owner now have the same name. Its headquarters were and are in Leeds.

WYPTE's network was called Metro. The name WYPTE was not used on its buses. Therefore, these tokens may well not have been bus discount tickets. These fobs are believed to have been attached to cash bags, the fob would contain the location of the home depot the driver was from so that if the driver paid in at another location they could be identified. See Leeds City Transport for very similar items.
