Renfrew had a ferry from ancient times with the current ferry location being used from 1790. This allowed workers to commute between Renfrew and Yoker. This resulted in the membership falling from 71 to about 40. However in 1880 things were recovering and in June 1884 the society opened the new premises it had built[2].
The society joined Cydebank in 1966.

RENFREW VICTUALLING SOCIETY 1800?-1832
The society is listed in Pigot's 1826 Directory of Scotland and Fowler's directory of Renfrewshire for 1829 and 1831 but not for 1834. It was based in the High Street. The Fowler's 1834 directory of Renfrewshire directory list the Renfrew Economical Victualling Association that started in 1834.
