The Glasgow, Paisley and Greenock Railway opened in 1841, running a train services between Glasgow and Greenock. Between 1842 and 1845 James Orr was running a coach between Gourock and the train station at Greenock. He died in 1853.

Between 1842 and 1845 James Orr started running a coach between Gourock and the train station at Greenock. BY 1847 it was being called an omnibus service. James Orr died in 1853 and the business was taken over by Robert Clark who then ran the business with James King, who eventually became the sole owner. James King sold the business to the Vale of Clyde Tramway Company in July 1873, who closed it down in the same month.
