MONTROSE CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY 1860-1969
The society was formed in 1860 under the name Montrose Baking and Grocery Co-operative Society. With the objective of enabling workers to invest in a co-operative association, shares were 10/- each. It appears to have not joined the SCWS until after 1900. It appears to have eneterd into a dividend competition with the Montrose Baking and Trading Society leading to the demise of that society. In 1920 the society formally changed its name to the Montrose Co-operative Society in 1920. The society joined North Angus in 1969.
