Repsol-YPF is an integrated Spanish oil and gas company. They had some machines in their fuel stations which worked with old 100 pesetas coins.
As the euro got into Spain, they had the problem that they should fix the machines to work with it. Instead of this, they asked the Spanish mint to issue a token with the same planchet as the 100 pesetas coin.
It is quite known the image of many Repsol petrol stations designed by Norman Foster.
