Donald McFarlane lived on 25 West Blackhall street in 1860-1873. The spelling BLACKFALL on the token is an error. In 1880, his business is known to have been passed on to his son, Albert. Donald died in 1882. Albert was no longer running the business in 1892/3

The magnet and sparks on wheel device is the logo of British Electric Traction (BET), the company that owned the Greenock and Port Glasgow Tramway. The same logo occurs on the tokens of the Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Company Ltd.
