GREENOCK UNITED CO-OPERATIVE COAL SOCIETY 1897-1903

The society was formed in 1897 by two Greenock co-operative societies. In 1898 all three societies were members with some individuals.

Greenock Industrial joined Greenock Central, a union of the two largest societies in Greenock, in May 1903. This left Greenock Central and the much smaller Greenock East End. This may have led to the questions being asked about the benefit of a joint coal society. The coal society was dissolved in September 1903[3].
