===McCAIG, GILCHRIST & CO===
There is a question over attribution of these tokens as market tokens.
John McCaig was a fruit broker at 62 Ingram Street in 1884. He was a partner in Greig, McCaig & Co. in 1887. In 1890 McCaig, Gilchrist & Co are listed as fruit salesmen at 87 Candleriggs and in 1892 at the Bazaar. The indication is that the company moved to Blochairn but closed around 1972.

Glasgow has had a fruit and vegetable market since the 12th century. The market was centerd on the Candleriggs area by 1817. This eventually consisted of a number of buuildings occupied by produce sellers and an open market built by Glasgow Corporation and known as the Fruit Bazaar. By 1930 Glasgow had become the third largest fruit market in the UK. In that year seven firms joined together to book five vessels to collect fruit from Australia and Tasmania.

In 1969 the market moved to Blochairn, north east of the city centre. The Fruit Bazaar still exists today having been refurbished as an events venue and covered square with the fruit seller's premises having been converted into restaurants and pubs with the original signs still on display.

T J ANDERSON & CO

T J Anderson & Co is listed at the Bazaar from 1911 to 1930. It may have become incorporated as Anderson & Co (Glasgow), which is listed at the Bazaar from 1931 to 1941.

L & H WILLIAMS & CO

Lewis and Herbert Williams were from Glamorgan in Wales. They were sons of Thomas Williams, a Welsh railway worker. Lewis is listed as a fruit salesman in 1876. In 1879 he had been joined by his brother Herbert to form L & H Williams & Co, fruit merchants at the Bazaar with addresses at Candleriggs and Bell Street. Lewis and Herbert are listed as lodgers in the 1881 census. In April 1903 Herbert was incapcitated and retired from the business. By 1903 they had a company in Liverpool by the same name. The Liverpool business was handed over to the other partner in Liverpool, Edgar Baker in September, to be continued as Edgar Baker & Co. This split corresponded with L & H Williams in Glasgow becoming incorporated.

Lewis Williams, the then major shareholder died in 1905. In 1908 the business was sold to John McGregor and David Stevenson to trade as L & H Williams & Co. At the same time L & H Williams & Co. Ltd. was dissolved. In 1919 David Sevenson became the sole partner of L & H Williams & Co.

The second L & H Williams & Co became incorporated in 1934. It moved to Blochairn. In 1982 there was a fire in the offices, which led to the company closing down in 1983.
