The village of Bankfoot is north of Perth in the parish of Auchtergaven. It was known as Auchtergaven until about 1810. The village had a station on the Bankfoot Light Railway from 1906 to 1964. It is now a commuter town for Perth.

AUCHTERGAVEN PROVISIONS SOCIETY 1847-1908

The society was formed in Bankfoot as Auchtergaven Provision Society during 1847. In 1864 the society paid a 27.5% dividend on capital[1]. In 1875 the dividend was 7.5% and it was being declared that the committee was being reduced from 12 volounteers to 4 paid people due to a lack of interest in Bankfoot regarding the running of the society[2]. In 1895 the society declared a dividend of 5% on share capital and 5s 9d on purchases[3].

From the 1880s the society was referred to as Bankfoot Co-operative Society. It is listed as a co-operative society in the 1883 to 1887 CWS congress reports as Auchtergaven Co-operative Society and is reported in newspapers under this name in the 1890s.

It was reported in January 1908 that the society had decided to wind up, first approaching Perth[4]. It looks like no buyer could be found for the business as the store in Bankfoot was put up for auction later that month[5]. From the listing in 1911 Leslie's Directory of Perth and Perthshire a store in Stanley instead of Bankfoot was opened by Perth Co-operative.
