Auchinleck, also know as Affleck, and was originally developed by the estate owners, the Boswells. By 1837 there was early mining and quarrying in the area. Coal mining increased and, with it, the growth of the village to accomodate miners. In 1957 Barony Power Station was opened to exploit the local coal fields. BY the 1980s deep coal mines were proving uneconomical and the last significant mine, High House, closed in 1983. This resulted in the power station closing in 1989.
A railway station was opened in 1848. This close in 1965 but was reopened in 1984.
AUCHINLECK ECONOMICAL SOCIETY 1841-1885
Auchinleck Economical Store was opeed in 1841. The store regsitered in 1866. In 1871 Auchinleck Economical Society bought 150 share, £1 each, from the Economical Store - this would be restructuring of the society. In 1885 the store and stock was sold

AUCHINLECK CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY 1890-1971
Meeting were held and the society formed in 1890.
The society joined with Ayrshire United Baking, Kilmarnock and Doon Valley to form Ayrshire in 1971. Ayrshire merged with the CWS in 1983.
