If you have this coin, could you check the reverse alignment, please? I wonder if the picture should not be turned 90° clockwise...

Peter
An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

bart

It is a medal alignment coin. The date on the reverse stands in line with the  500 on the obverse.
It can also be turned 90° on both sides.

Amazing that people outside the US are still using such terms. ;D Anyway, this is how the central bank depicts these coins:

Alignment of coin rather design is impressive so that viewer or collector enjoy it in both ways.

The alignment is not medal, nor coin, but something in between: you have to turn the coin 90° to get them in line. It is like the Dutch pre-euro coins with the effigy of queen Beatrix.

According to chrisild's link these are the designers:
Draft design: Primoz Gutman, Edin Okic, Urban Svegl, Matjaz Vodlan, Slovenia
Relief design: Jan Cernaj, State Mint, Kremnica, Slovakia

In my topic Which Countries' Coins Are Contra-Aligned?, I used the terms "parallel alignment" and "contra-alignment".

"Parallel alignment" (↑↑) is equivalent to medal alignment for Americans. With contra-alignment, you see the obverse design the right way up in your album - but you turn the page, then the reverse design is the wrong way up!  ::)

So do the other 500 Tolar commemorative coins also have same kind of alignment?

Another coin commemorating the World Championships soccer of 1982 in Spain is this Bulgarian 1 lev, issued in 1980. It shows the trophy.

Another Bulgarian soccer coin from 1986.

Poland - don't think I've seen this one mentioned earlier in the thread:

Poland has just started a new series about Polish football clubs (similar to the French series that started in 2009). The first club featured is Polonia Warszawa, see the attached image. Larger pictures are here:

And I am sure that more football related coins will soon follow, not "only" about clubs. :) Next year we have the UEFA Euro Cup in Poland and Ukraine, and Ukraine has just issued five (4x10, 1x20 hryvnias) pieces to commemorate or promote the cup. Have not seen images of those yet.
