While reading some news about new US$100 problem, I just noticed that 3D security thread, by Crane AB, is getting more popular.
There are many countries had added this technology into their banknotes and more to come.

Sweden - 1,000 kornor (2006)

Mexico - 100 (2010), 200 (2008), 500 (2010) and 1,000 pesos (2008)

South Korea - 50,000 won (2009)

Denmark - 50 (2009), 100 (2010), 200 (2010), 500 (2011) and 1,000 kroner (2011)

Chile - 10,000 and 20,000 pesos (2010)

Costa Rica - 20,000 colones (2010) >> 10,000 and 50,000 colones will be later

Paraguay - 20,000 , 50,000 and 100,000 guaranies (2011)

Lebanon - 50,000 and 100,000 pounds (2011)

Wonder for how long this feature can prevent counterfeit note.

I think you got it right: there is a constant race between banknote makers and forgers. US notes have been updated quite recently, so I doubt they are in the mood for another change.

It is an impressive lineup of banknotes, though.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

The 3D Security thread found in Indian Banknotes has also been forged. But the difference is in the words RBI and BHARAT on this security thread. Just see this topic for more details.

Just found out that Tanzania also issued their new series which featured Motion thread.

Tanzania - 500, 2000, 5000 and 10000 shillings (2011)

Since 500 Tanzanian shillings is about $0.31 (€0.22), make me wonder about the cost of attaching very tiny microlens layer into the paper.

Those are some nice Tanzanian banknotes!

I think the 500 shillings banknote you have posted is a replacement banknote (because of ZZ prefix).

Here is a small portion of the very first banknote you showed - the Swedish 1000 kr note - with such a moving window thread. Hope the animation will be visible; you can also view or download the file at the Riksbank web site. Currently the 1000 kronor note is the only Swedish one that has the feature; in the forthcoming series (2014?) all notes are going to have it.

It looks like Peru is going to get their new family banknotes with this feature.

Peru - 100 and 200 nuevos soles (2011)

100 nuevos soles is about $36.6/€25.6
