Had one of those wonderful electronic conversations with ebay. After going through the whole process agian I was assured hand on heart by ebay that their law enforcement people would be right on to it. ( a bit like we will do it in no more than three days when it was raised 12/13 days ago).

So with this advance in progress I asked if I would be kept informed. The conversation was terminated after a long pause.

It appears after last nights interesting conversation that the item has been removed. We shall wait and see further.

Yes. I see that it has been removed. Or did one of you gentlemen purchase after eliminating the competition with rumors of fraud?  :P

Unlike ebay I am an honest broker of the truth.

If it was real it sure had the experts fooled.

;D The seller has as many as you want.  :)

Great job akona20 and Rangnath! I had given up hope that this would ever be removed but your persistence made it possible.

Perhaps akona20's efforts made a difference. And perhaps my efforts helped.  I wonder how many "complaints" are necessary.  Does Ebay in fact have a matrix for this process?

In any case, there is strength in numbers! Hail to WOC and our band of numismatic brothers!

The problem has been to break down the process which with bay is simply to stall and to support the seller at almost all costs. In fact I think the only thing that got this one across the line was the official complaint lodged with the ACCC. This one was also rather large. Now in our sphere of interest we can keep attacking. I am long fed up with the so called experts who write loud and long about the fakes they discover but do nothing other than to add to long lists on some sites.
We have some highly regarded expertise here in specific areas and if we harness that correctly we can endeavour to keep our little area relatively safe.

Here is a big ticket fake Russian coin with a "Buy it now", reported already to ebay - yet no action taken.

And associated thread about it,

(I guess this is in the wrong forum, but it fits with the rest of this thread)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DESRABLE-INDIA-MYSORE-SCARE-TIPU-SULTAN-2-PAISA-XXRARE-/370540215423?pt=UK_Coins_World_RL&hash=item5645eafc7f

check out the sellers other auctions.

difficult to tell with that one, seller also has another 2 paisa with elephant the other way round,   Item location: PRRCEHOBBY, United Kingdom,  makes me suspicious, why hide their location under a code?

sorry, wrong link -
This is the one I meant to post as an example,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-BRITISH-INDIA-MADRAS-PRESIDENCY-2-DUBS-Vry-SCARE-/370540212348?pt=UK_Coins_World_RL&hash=item5645eaf07c

Look closely at the postage ("See all details"): £7.20 Standard Delivery from outside UK - but then note: Item location: PRRCEHOBBY, United Kingdom

I suspect a scam of some sort!

Some of the links to other coins on offer are Ebay.UK but in dollars & some of the links go to Ebay.In with prices in Rupees, his feedback although not 100% doesn't really indicate a scammer at 99.8% however. I would think he may possibly be located in India with a UK based partner ?

The only time I've reported an item to eBay because I believed it to be fake and not advertised as such, it was pulled more or less immediately. It was something purporting to be a 1933 UK penny, where in the picture the obverse was obliquely superimposed on the reverse such that the final digit of the date was covered.

Perhaps it was easier for eBay to pull this as they didn't have to call on any experts -- if the date of the coin isn't clearly visible in the photo, then that's a clear prima facie case for attempted fraud, I'd have thought, and it wouldn't have taken a numismatic genius to establish how few 1933 pennies there actually are and theoretically available for private sale.
