I don't know why, but I always find Islamic coinage fascinating. I'm not collecting banknotes as of now but when I saw these banknotes, I found them really beautiful. Nice designs and so many varieties! I'm almost tempted to buy them.. But before buying them I'll do some sort of research and the site I mentioned is a great tool for that purpose. Fortunately Iranian and Iraqi banknotes I'm interested in aren't very expensive at the moment (exceptions are there, of course) so getting them shouldn't be a problem. 8)

May be a good place to ask this question: Do any of the members here collect banknotes? If yes, what type of notes you collect? Any particular theme?

Well, when I got bogged down in the reading of IPS / Mughal coins, I started collecting British India Coins and then later on notes and I have a fairly good collection of most reasonably priced notes of the era 1925 to 1947. As a logical extension, I started collection of Indian Bank notes post independence. I have all varieties  of the Re 1, Rs 2 & Rs 5 notes (except the one Re 1 signature) issued. I also have almost all varieties of the Rs 10 & 100 notes issued since 1947. Also a good lot of the Rs 20, 50 500 & 1000 notes. This has been the focus of my collection. I have a fairly large collection of Indian error notes.

My travels to many countries has ensured that I am left over with a few notes of different countries on my return. I used to stack them up. In recent times, I ensure that I bring back 1 note of every current denomination of the country I visit and believe that I have bank notes issued by over 50 different countries.
