This has just arrived:

and I'm infatuated.

Probably just started a whole new collection sub genre.

Tell us a bit more, Bob. Why are you so infatuated? Which subgenre do you intend to start collecting? Let your enthusiasm roll...  8)

Good question. It's probably the clean elegance of the reverse, coupled with the slightly over ornamented obverse; that whiff of Last Days of Empire.
In fact, that may be my new quest. The final coins of the British Empire.

Minor point - Krause/Numismaster consider that the obverse is the side that carries the country name. Now, it isn't always straightforward, as I dare say there will be one or two cases where it appears on both. See this thread by Galapagos: Obverse / Reverse.

That's quite a quest and depends on how you define final. I suppose I have most of them, though since I collect primarily by design, I made the decision to go for the GVI Southern Rhodesia coins rather than the QEII ones - compare the prices, and you'll see what I mean. I often look at the beautiful thematic designs that the Royal Mint provided for our overseas cousins and think, why couldn't they have done it for us? Well, we got the ship ha'penny and wren farthing, but we've only had heraldry on the other standard circulation pieces.

In this particular case, there being no head of the sovereign, I regard the presence of the crown to be indicative of obverse/reverse. A personal preference, nothing more.
