Shah Jahan Rupee??
« on: April 04, 2011, 08:15:15 PM »
Is this a Shah Jahan rupee? The dates are not Shah Jahan's, I am hoping this not a fake/fantasy :(

I don't know how I could even end up buying this one, this is most definitely a bad fake, a token perhaps.
It would be interesting if it were a contemporary token.

Found a similar reference here -

Can the experts throw some light on this particular one?

It is most certainly not a coin more so of Shah Jahan. An Islamic temple token? May be............
If it was sold to you as a coin, take it back to the seller and ask for a refund.......

Thanks Amit,

This was sold as a coin - I managed to return this back the way I had got it - didn't get fooled this time.

Also, thanks to worldofcoins, I also got the apparent 'Nazrana' of 'Hindustan' mint (http://www.worldofcoins.eu/forum/index.php/topic,9352.0.html) returned. :)

Religious token or amulet, in the name of Shah Jahan. See for a similar token ZENO #58532.

The date given for the Indian Billon Token i.n.o. Shah Jahan in Zeno was 1062.  The token appears to be milled but has the appearance of age.  If I had to guess, I'd say it was produced in the 19th century.  Or, are there clever manufacturers producing such tokens today to appear old?
