Steam trains and railway stations
« on: June 13, 2010, 03:29:31 AM »
This topic is for coin designs showing steam trains and locomotives.

Please post modern trains in Modern trains and railway stations.

Designs that show both steam trains and modern trains may be posted in either topic, or both.

Railway stations do not yet have their own topic. If the railway station was built in the days of steam trains, post the coin in this topic, otherwise post it in Modern trains and railway stations.

GDR 5 Mark 1988. This commem shows the Saxonia, built for the first "long distance" connection in what today is Germany: between Leipzig and Dresden.

My favorite railway/train coin is from Albania. It looks pretty much like the one depicted below. But that is "just" the 5 lek Cu-Ni coin; the 50 lek silver piece has a diameter of 65 mm ... and a hole where the tunnel begin or ends. :)

And here is a bronze souvenir medallion from Germany; 150 Jahre Deutsche Eisenbahn is 150 years German railroads. I suspect this is part of a series, showing different locomotives.

Hehe, "classic" also because Mexico does not have any passenger railway services, apart from tourist trains (Copper Canyon) and such ... :)
