The essais appear to have been passed recently.
Minting has started.
Should be issued by Sept. end barring unforeseen circumstances.

Isn't this a privately issued fantasy set?

Yup, all those "Essai - Pattern - Probe" euroesque pieces :) are privately issued medals. At least these pieces are quite nicely designed; I have seen worse. But they are not coins, and not authorized by any of the governments involved ...

A dealer I know is already asking 119 for the Andorran BU set, loose unc sets are already being (pre)-sold for ~50; so it seems that no matter when or how Andorran euro coins will be issued, they will remain beyond reach of common collectors... :'(

I agree! I can buy at-least 50 nice coins which ACTUALLY circulate(d) and have a nice story to tell! I'm anyway not going to buy the BU blister or the loose unc set, I'd be happy to get only the 1 and 2 coins though. ;)

I already bought mine on ebay for much less than 50 in Jan or early Feb and I will be pissed off if the seller refuses to sell me. But somehow I hope it won't happen, guy is bigger euro dealer on the net. I mean, what's the purpose of presale then.

BTW, with 119 euros I can't buy so much interesting coins anymore that I miss and can tell story about. Maybe 5 or 10 pieces at most, but even that's stretched. Anyhow, would never give it for a new euro set, only for things like Monaco 2001/2 that I know how prices can only rise.

I think the price will drop in a short time after the issuance. It happens all the time.

Zackly. :)  Collectors can be crazy - just think of the JFK gold hype in the US this month. As for the Andorran pieces, we'll see. I do watch the usual suspects in terms of news sites, etc., but the coins are not there yet. So what ...

I don't think I ever paid 119 or more for a coin. My (not too hard) limit was 25 (only in the last years; it remained at 20 for decades) and most of the time, I remained far below that. One of the most expensive coins I ever bought was a gothic crown for 35 (it had an insignificant dig).

Plenty of good stories to tell. Remember those East German commemoratives I bought I FfM, Christian? Below 10 a piece and there is the story of a most excellent day with friends attached to it to begin with. Moreover, they can't steal memories.

Well, 119 is for 8 coins, so it is 15 per piece. Still, the price will probably drop. Just do not buy in panic.

Well, October is half over and there is STILL no news regarding the Andorran euro coins. Will they ever be issued? ;)

I'm sure if you asked the right person in China, you could have them by Monday and for about 100 RMB. (Like 10 quid, 15 euros)

I guess so. But who cares? One fine day the coins will be shipped to Andorra from France and Spain. Until then - they use the euro that they have been using for years. :)
