I am sorry; I dont agree with you that symbol of Rupee is politically inspired.

I think the symbol of Rupee is very creative and combines our Devnagri script very beautifully with Roman script.  :-*

If this is true then I agree with aan09 ::)

It's creative or not, that's a different question.

Dear Sanjay ,

Please note that every one has right to share his views and opinion in such kind of debatable topics. So you are also sharing similarly hence  no need to say sorry .

As a coin collector usually I don't like to break my head for issues related to approvals by Govt and politically motivated designs of coins & bla bla ................ I simply want to collect the coin which I could afford .

Regarding creativity of symbol we have not seen other designer's work , let us keep in mind that the new rupee symbol design was choosen from 3000 designs submitted by various designers . The guy who was winner  had submitted 4 symbol designs as his entries but according to Indian Rupee Symbol Design, competition guidelines strictly restricts his design entries at the time of screening. This is because the number of entries by each entrant could have been at most 2.

Well so far none of the Govt organization or Banks are  answerable about non use of new rupee symbol , if you see the Khadi stamp cover of  Mahatma Gandhi  latest issued at Inidpex it is still with old rupee symbol , when I asked concerned postal authorities about it they have not clue or idea why not using new rupee symbol.

Cheers ;D

in this instance i would worry about the 1 re stamp masquerading as a 100 rs stamp rather than the symbol

''We plan to make India the world's third largest aviation market by 2020,

It would be challenging job for DGCA & Civil Aviation to make it happen after series of fake pilot's unearthed.
It not only tarnished their credibility but they are facing Staff crunch also. This dent would not be easily rectified.

Fake pilot scam: Staff crunch hits DGCA crackdown
Saurabh Sinha, TNN, Apr 11, 2011, 04.06am IST
NEW DELHI: The worst fears about India's aviation safety regulator " Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) " being grossly understaffed to ensure the safety of booming air traffic have come true. As aviation secretary Nasim Zaidi and DGCA chief Bharat Bhushan crack the whip on the fake pilot scam and flying schools, they are getting handicapped by the fact that there are very few people left for these jobs.

The DGCA has just 140-odd full-time employees across the country, some of whom may end up behind bars once their role in the scam becomes known. It is taking the help of consultants and people from outside to fill the gap of executing regulatory tasks essential to ensure flyer safely.

Releasing of commemorative coins would be under hold like "commonwealth games coins" now they have changed priority to come out of this mess &  to regain lost reputation.

Beauty of India is that inspite of all the problems + abject poverty + unmanagable population + dozens of languages +  multiple religions +  2000 ethnic groups + corrupt politicians; SOMETHING STILL CLICKS;D   ;D

Look at our neighbourhood - Afganistan, Pakistan, Burma, Bangldesh, Srilanka, Russia....Or look at all the other countires who got independence in last 50-60 years after decolonization..Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda, Kenya, Rawanda.

Our population itself is a big problem. Population of US is 300 million. Our population is 1200 million. Surface area of US is 9.8 million sq km. Our area is only 3.2 million sq km. Thus while US is sustaining 31 persons per sqkm, we are sustaining 375 persons per sq km. If we send all our citizens to US, there will be total mayhem in US inspite of it being four times larger than us.

We are very lucky that we have not became a banana republic or a tinpot dictatorship. I am sure that if any other country was beseized with so much problems, they must have disintegrated.

Hi Sanjay,

I'm fully agree with your version , "Something still clicks" -  "Saab Kutch Jugaar hai"  isn't it .

That is reality and we should not hesitate to accept it.

In spite of it   let us hope for the best in future.

They could have hired an artist and come up with an original thought.  I find it really amusing that they cant think for themselves and come up with poor excuses.

On a different note, the new coinage was designed by the top talent of NID. Look what they have come up with!

Which new designs? The new coins with the rupee symbol? I haven't seen the finalized designs anywhere yet. Can you post the images of designs if possible? (or any link?) That would be great.

And the same NID designed the 'cross' coins. They were certainly not good. ;D ;)

President to inaugurate civil aviation conference in Mumbai

Mumbai, Oct 14 (IANS) President Pratibha Patil will Monday inaugurate an international conference on civil aviation in Mumbai.

The 4th International Civil Aviation Negotiation Conference 2011 (ICAN 2011), hosted by the ministry of civil aviation, is the first of its kind summit being held in India under the aegis of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Montreal, Canada, a UN agency responsible for international civil aviation.

Organised with a purpose for aviation negotiators from different countries to conduct bilateral air services negotiations or consultations in a central meeting place, the earlier conferences were held in Dubai, Istanbul (Turkey) and Jamaica.

Patil will also release coins to commemorate 100 years of civil aviation in India.

In India, there has been a significant enhancement in national and international connectivity, making it the ninth biggest civil aviation market in the world. India has bilateral air services agreements with 108 countries and at present 72 foreign airlines are operating to/from various destinations within the country.

Three Indian carriers are operating to 35 destinations in 25 countries.

Around 35 bilateral negotiations are expected to take place during ICAN 2011. Over 300 delegates from 65 countries will be participating in the conference.

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Vayalar Ravi, Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan and Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will also be present at the conference chaired by Civil Aviation secretary Nasim Zaidi.

To mark 100 years of Civil Aviation industry in India, the President released a commemorative coin of Rs 100 and Rs 5 denomination

Prez for expansion of aviation sector to further trade
Mumbai, Oct 17, (PTI):

Underlining the importance of aviation in economic development of countries, President Pratibha Patil today sought ''flexible business modules'' for expansion of the aviation industry.

"Innovative and flexible business modules may be evolved, enabling greater connectivity between countries to promote people-to-people contacts, as well as trade and business.

"To achieve this, governments must continually negotiate new bilateral treaties, to allow for and expand access to new and emerging markets for their carriers," Patil said inaugurating the fourth International Civil Aviation Negotiation (ICAN) conference here.

She said airlines could act as "goodwill ambassadors" to connect people across the globe.

"Flying is no longer the prerogative of a few privileged, but an option for an increasingly broader section of society. Airlines could be goodwill ambassadors to bring nations and peoples together," the President, who is on a two-day visit of Mumbai, said.

The rapidly expanding aviation sector handles 2.5 billion passengers across the world in a year; moves 45 million tonnes of cargo through 920 airlines, using 4,200 airports and deploying 27,000 aircraft.

"Such a large scale global operation requires that experts of Member States of International Civil Aviation Organisation must gather frequently, to evolve consensus and co-ordination on various issues to ensure a universally safe and secure international aviation sector," she said.

Taking note of the rapid growth in the aviation industry in recent past, Patil said the country plans to expand the airport network and provide connectivity to tier II and III cities in the next five years.

"We are also looking at further developing several airports in state capitals, in tourist centres and business and commercial centres. In the city side of these airports the private sector will be invited for developing hotels, shopping complexes, cargo, parking lots, and food courts, among others," Patil said.

The President also asked the investors to become partners in the process of making airports friendlier for the traveller.

"There is a sea change from 500 departures per week in the country in 1994 before deregulation, to nearly 15,000 departures daily - a 30 times jump. Today, 87 foreign airlines fly to and from India and 5 Indian carriers fly to and from 40 countries," she said.
In the last decade, domestic air traffic has quadrupled from 13 million to 52 million and international traffic more than tripled to 38 million.

"A similar trend is observed in the cargo sector," the President said.

Today in India, about 60 per cent of air traffic is being handled in airports under the Public Private Partnership model at Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore and the rest 40 per cent, is with airports owned and operated by the Airports Authority of India.

During the period from 2005 to 2010, USD 10 billion has been invested in airport development in the country.

"In next five years, we plan to expand the airport network and provide connectivity to tier II and III cities. In Metro cities where the existing airport cannot accommodate future growth, a second airport is being planned in the same city. New Mumbai is a case in example," she said.

Terming the potential for growth in rapidly expanding aviation sector as "huge", the President said domestic air traffic will touch 160 to 180 million passengers per annum, in the next 10 years and international traffic will exceed 80 million passengers within a decade.

India is thus being looked upon by aircraft manufacturers and allied aviation industries, as an important destination for doing business, she said.

"I do hope that provision for these growth figures reflect in the agreements being made in the bilateral negotiations that are shortly going to begin in this ICAN conference.

These must realistically take into account the needs of the people in our respective countries and allow for competition and improvements in quality," the President said.

The ICAN is a specialised 190-member States agency of the United Nations to promote safe and orderly development of international civil aviation throughout the world.

"India is already the 9th largest and the fastest growing aviation market in the world. It is expected to be amongst first five in the next 10 years," Patil said.

To mark 100 years of Civil Aviation industry in India, the President released a commemorative coin of Rs 100 and Rs 5 denomination.

The country's first commercial civil aviation flight had taken off on February 18, 1911.

The six-day conference will end on October 22. Besides, Civil Aviation Minister Vayalar Ravi, Minister of heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Praful Patel along with various central and Maharashtra government officials were present during the conference being jointly organised by ICAN and Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Earlier, the ICAN conferences were held in Dubai, Istanbul and Jamaica.
