Does the mint name read "Bairata"? (I can also see a couple of characters just above the "Fa" of "Falus, which I can't explain.) The Lucknow museum catalogue records the swastika symbol for Bairata (No. 890) on a specimen dated AH978.

From a look at Liddle's book, I'm pretty sure about Bairata (Type C-1). The dates reported by Liddle are AH971, 97X, 981, and 984.

Even I can see that yours is dated 980. Congratulations, Overlord. 8) Watch out, asm, there is competition for your proverbial good luck out there ;)

Thanks Peter, but the years 971, 977-982 are reported in Krause (KM#28.12).

Good to have experts at WOC who are contributing a lot , it is quite useful for amateur collectors who are still growing their knowledge for Mughal coins.

Interesting to read discussions ongoing on various variety of coins and topic pertaining to Mughals.

Cheers ;D

Attribution to Bairata is not confirmed. This coin is listed among the "Mysteries" in Liddle's book (#9), except that the specimen he shows doesn't have any part of the mint name visible at the top.

Found a similar one attributed to Bairata here, with Swastika in a different position. i am pretty certain now that Liddle#9 is of Bairata mint.

That seems a conclusion worthwhile of publication (ONS?)

Another example here, which shows part of the "toe" (t) of Bairat. What I can't make sense of are the "extra" characters just above the "Fa" of Falus. Did Bairat use a mint epithet?

Another one showing the two dots above toe. There seems to be another character above "ye" as well.

Hi Overlord,

I have a similar coin that has a swastika mark and almost looks similar to what you have posted.
Can you please look at it and let me know if you can find anything about the mint

Thanks
Prem

It is either Bairata or Narnol. I haven't personally come across an example that clearly shows the mint name.
