Here is a list of Mughal emperors. The spelling and dates are from Zeno, the links lead to Wikipedia. Three names on Zeno's list were not found in Wikipedia (one does have a reference stub) and one pretender in Wikipedia did not show up in Zeno. Both are in this list. The part of the name in bold denotes how the Mughal in question is often referred to. Official names (see Wikipedia) are often even longer. Dates do not refer to the dates on the coins but to actual dates of reign.

This list is only for fast lookup of background. It does not refer to the coins on this board. For an index of the coins, see this thread. Please use this thread for comments.

This post illustrates how the names of the rulers occur on their coins. There may be others out there. The intention of the post is that if you have found the date on the coin, you can check if the correct name appears on it. Another possibility is to work back find a date range for coins where the date is off-flan with the help of the name of the ruler.

The pictures were chosen by our best experts on Indian coins. Please use the thread linked to above for comments and questions.
