Some sellers are shamelessly selling 1 rupee RBI coin for Rs 100 each on e-bay, with usual tag 'RARE'  >:(

An easy way to get 5 Rupee RBI Coins:

1. Plan to visit Taj Mahal on the New Year Day.
2. Travel from Delhi to Agra by Car.
3. On the Toll Tax booth between Palwal and Hodal, hand over a 50 Rupee note for the toll.
4. Get 3 new almost UNC 5 Rupee RBI coins in the change (The Toll fee is Rs. 35.00) ;D ;D

Today, my brother really got 3 RBI 5 Rupee coins in the change, while coming from Delhi. The toll people have got bags full of 5 rupee coins and they are distributing these coins in change.

Wow thats a unique way of collecting coins. As a bonus, you got to admire the Taj on New Year.

But on a serious note, all the mcdonalds, big bazaars and toll plazas always get bags full on new coins; whereas you and me have to travel to Agra!!

I wonder how they manage to get all the shiney ones

And if you don't want to do all this ;), just drop me a PM :) I got about 30 pieces directly from RBI of which 15-18 have already gone, but I still have some 10-12 pieces left. I can probably get more on request. I can trade them for other Indian coins which I don't have or can 'sell' them for face value+shipping 8) I still have other (60 years of commonwealth, Homi Bhabha bimetallic) coins which I can offer for face..

Rs 5 and Re 1 seem to have been spotted with some regularity now. Any signs of the other denominations?

Ok, so I'll first have to buy a car to get it in change. That would be very high price for it ;D ;D
