Dear Friends

You must be waware that earleir, India used to be governed from Calcutta. Later, few villages were converted into New Delhi.A Coronation Durbar was held on 11 Dec 1911in which King George V and Queen Mary very invited. Many Rajas of princely states also came. Amid much fanfare, it was announced that the capital of India will be shifted to New Delhi. Although New Delhi took 20 years to construct. The capital was formally shifted in 1931.

The year 2011 marks 100 years fo this announcement. I wonder if GOI will issue coins on this occasion.

On the occasion of the Delhi Durbar, a medal was also issued in Gold to all the Princely State Kings and in silver to all the other officers of the British India.

So, this medal is also 100 years old now, and that also means that this medal now cannot be sent out of India, without the prior permission form the Archeaological Survey of India (ASI), as anything which is more than or is 100 years old cannot be sent out of India, without the permision of ASI.

Nice occasion to commemorate, but I think they will mess up the design part (if the coin is issued). Indian designers are more comfortable with showing (dumb) portraits and logos rather than showing some creativity. Remember the design of 60 years of commonwealth of nations? >:(

Activities from Delhi Government begins to celebrate this occasion on December this year , a programme on Delhi Aajtak  has been telecast to show ongoing preparation which includes renovation of the Coronation Park in Kingsway Camp , New Delhi. It includes installation of statue of George V.

Here is link about history of this park and link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delhi_Durbar

Hoping all collectors will get some surprise from government for issuing any coins.

Cheers ;D

Every experience, good or bad, is a priceless collector's item.

I do not think that the Delhi Government is celebrating this event, they may be spending few thousand crores of Rupees for upgrading the Coronation Park in Delhi

They are struggling to come out of mess of famous "commonwealth games scam" , again priority changed.

Sanjay, a note from Pabitra ... your wish may yet come true...Have there been really any celebrations on this though ?

New Delhi's foundation stone was laid after it was announced that a new
capital city would be created, in 1911. The centenary celebrations have just
started.
It is likely that commem coins would be issued at the conclusion of
celebrations.
