what is the meaning of the small "FI" on the Finnish euro coins? up to 2006 there was an "M".
the mint master?

@ Harald,
The M indeed was the mintmasters' mark of Raimo Tapio Makkonen.
As from 2007 an indication of the country of origin was preferred. And FI happens to be the ISO-3166 country code for Finland.

Also, when the "M" was replaced, they started putting the mint's logo on coins too. Between 2007 and 2010 that was a stylized cornucopia. This year a new mintmark was introduced: the lion from the new mint logo.
