Among my recent acquisitions is a 1 taka 1992. According to KM, this would be a steel coin (KM 9.2), therefore magnetic. My coin is not magnetic. Super-rare variant, to be sold for millions of thousands on eBay or error in KM?

Not all steels are attracted to a magnet...

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

KM explicitly says the coin is magnetic.

I have checked my 1992, 1993,and 1994 .... they are not attracted to "my" magnet ...

Thanks Paul. Yet another chance to become a millionnaire missed. ;)

So can someone confirm the existence of magnetic 1 taka 1992?  ;D

The 1 Taka 1992 S#15 is listed as austenitic steel (an alloy of iron, nickel and chromium) which is hardly or not at all attracted to a magnet.

Thanks, Gerhard. Typo, I suppose. They wanted to indicate that the "steel" was not magnetic and forgot a word.

I have a 1992 1-Taka and it isn't attracted to my magnet that I can tell.  I assumed my magnet wasn't strong enough or they weren't attracted due to basic personality differences  ;)

Is there any chance of becoming a millionnaire for me as my 1992 one taka is not attracted to magnet. Magnet kisses only 2002 and onward. For five taka magnet attracts only 2008 one.

Figleaf

Alas, all reports in this thread say the coin is non-magnetic. You will be a millionaire only in Zimbabwe. Gerhard's explanation upthread - the coin is made of a non-magnetic specialty steel - sounds good to me.

The 1 Taka 1995 in my collection is weakly magnetic although it is made of austenitic steel. Unlike the 1992 and 1993 1 Taka of the same design, my 1995 has some wear. I have seen some reports of some austenitic steels becoming weakly magnetic after being treated. The magnetic attraction of the 2002 and 2003 1 Taka coins that are of ferritic steel is strong so there is no confusion with the 1995 coin being made of austenitic steel.

According to Numista (3165), these are non-magnetic, as the discussion about the alloy above would confirm.
