Woohoo, though I'm sure the horse wasn't committing suicide when I drew it ;D

What made you choose which bit of shading should go where on the horsey?

Got the two men being sucked into a vortex too, though that's a strange sport if you ask me ;D

I just drew it as you would with cross hatching. I have the original image on my e-mail but I don't know if I'm allowed to publish it as it belongs to the mint, apparently! Then it kind of makes sense!

Two pictures - these are two versions (one as seen and one flipped/mirrored) of the same picture of the obverse of a Shooting 50p from circulation.

This is a die clash and the only lettering that shows due to this die clash is the "50 PENCE" from the reverse appearing backwards on the obverse. I have never seen die clashing involving lettering on a GB coin before. As well "50 PENCE" (not visible to full height) there are a few slight design "outlines" on the obverse of the coin that are from the reverse design.

Are there any others like this around ?

Thanks Mr Paul Baker

Fully convincing picture, Paul. Congratulations. First class eyesight.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Here is an oddity - a mint sealed bag of brand new 50p, containing Guides 2010 commemoratives and 2011 olympic 50p....

That is odd.

By the way, how are mint bags of coins obtained?

You have to ask nicely at a post office (be prepared for them to simply say "no" or alternatively, deny all knowledge that coins circulate in England ::)) - better still is to know the franchise owner....

So next stupid question:

Coudl you share how many are in the various bags?

Since I am wondering if the guy who runs the post office in our village shop would be able to get them.

Ken

1p and 2p in bags of £1
5p, 10p, 20p in bags of £5
50p, £1, £2 in bags of £10

Post offices cannot control which supplies they get - they are only able to ask for a set value I believe and it's pot luck if they get new ones or old ones.
