More seriously, and looking at what appears to be AUS above the head, could it be Stanislaus Augustus of Poland?

Not quite, as it is no A before US.

No R either. But not far away of both.

Adolph Friedrich, King of Sweden, as Duke of Pomerania?  The portrait looks about right (apart from the unfortunate die crack), and the legend ADOLPHUS.FRID.D.G.REX.SVEC. would fit.  If so, then the 1/6 Thaler of 1760-61?

I like his collar, Sigismund (Poland) wears something very similar - but I don't think it's him.

If it's not him, who could it be then?

I too feel like I should know this one...I know I have seen the portrait before but I can't for the life of me remember where I have seen it.  The thought that keeps coming unbidden to mind is early 17th century...but I don't really even know that much :)

I was off by 30 years from when I thought the coin dated from!
Anyone know off hand if this one is in the Bachtell Books?  If so I certainly over-looked it!
