Palau: Bears and Boo---Hammerhead
« on: October 23, 2010, 01:49:56 PM »
From the "Coins the world has been longing for", here come ... a cute teddy bear, and a not-so-cute hammerhead shark. And if you don't like the shark, you may find the other side attractive.

The bear: Palau $1, 11 mm, 0.5 g gold (Au 9999), mintage 25,000. Larger images:

And here is another piece with two ladies, this time "from" the Cook Islands. One was called Ginger, the other's name is Elizabeth ...

Cook Islands $5, 38.6 mm, 25.0 g silver (Ag 925), mintage 2,500. Larger images:

It took me a while to figure out the mermaids and I am still not sure I have assembled the pieces correctly :) The design reminds me of the ground floor of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris; grandpa's porn, disguised as "art". :'(

I am holding out for a coin with a wind-up mechanism.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I like the mermaid design a little and QE is ok...all the others are not very interesting.
The shark could have been interesting if it was designed in the normal way.

Sure, all these are gimmicks rather than commems, and certainly not means of payment. :)  Must admit that I found the tiny bear cute, so I looked the info about it up, and then found some more ...
