This means that the Coin on C. Subramaniam has been released by the RBI for the general circulation. It won't be long that this coin will be available with the dealers for 10-15 rupees.

I was offered and bought 5 @ Rs 20 each today.

I have not yet picked them up. I will do so when ever I am in that area. Does'nt make sense to spend Rs 100 worth fuel & time to pick up Rs 100 worth coins. The guy who sells the coins does not bother about mints......

Quite reasonable for such newly issued commemorative coins , in past years dealers were asking Rs.100 - Rs 500  for most of coins issued in period (2007-2009).

Stable prices shows competition on going  among dealers &  to liquidate their investment  to invest further due to  issue of new  coins at frequent intervals.

Cheers ;D

Which mintmark Amit?

Kolkatta Mint. I almost fell off the chair seeing the quality........at par with Mumbai.

what would you say if i told you this coin is not available in cal and is a bom mint product.  i am getting some sampling done will let you know but something will definitely come out of it.  The die is also different on the lion side at present its just a hypothesis but we are leaning towards 3 mints 4 mintmark scenario.  If something comes out i will let you know.

I said Kolkatta since I did not see any mint mark. There is no other way I could make out which mint the product came from. I'll check with my supplier if he had bought a packet, then may be it has the name of the mint on it.........

I got a c subramanium coin today in circulation.... All nice and shiny ! Actually my brother left it in the car as spare change and I conviniently picked it up ;D . There is no mint mark. However, the Ashoka lion is what you'd commonly see on bombay struck coins( like Alphonsa)

its b mint with no mint mark.  at least that what the conclusion is based on the research make of it what you will

There is no mint mark.

In this case there are only two possibilities , either the coin minted at Kolkatta or weak strike at Mumbai mint .

It might be Bombay mint. But just to point out that the rs5 annadurai coin in the unc set similarly doesn't have a mint mark but the lion looks likes what Bombay mint would strike. And Anna set clearly came from Kolkata! The subramanium coin I have definitely isn't a weak strike. So it's possibly from Calcutta or thebombay mint has deliberately left out its mintmark

well the network says the jute sacks have bombay mint written on them.  although if a debate pops up they can simply say the coins were minted in cal and dist by bom end of story.  I am trying to see if cal mint also minted these coins with a different lion if they did it will make our case stronger but then again they can just say die variations and be done with it.  I am hoping for die identifiers with and without mint marks that will settle the case but trying to find them will be a herculean task.

its easier to forget this episode and concentrae on the 32k that i have to shell out to the IK
