C. Subramaniam coins released
August 29th, 2010
DC Correspondent

COIMBATORE, Aug. 28: Union finance minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee released commemorative coins in honour of former Union finance minister and father of Green Revolution, Bharat Ratna C. Subramaniam, to mark the latter's centenary celebrations in the city on Saturday.
"This is a great opportunity to pay homage to a great soul of India. He had made immense contributions in building up the nation," he said before releasing the five-rupee denomination coins at a function held at SITRA Auditorium on Avinashi Road. The first coins were received by Mr Rajasekar, son of C. Subramaniam.
Mr Mukherjee said that when most of the members of the Constituent Assembly were veterans in freedom struggle and quite old, Subramaniam was a young man but he was given the opportunity to be a member with weighty responsibilities to shoulder. He had had a hand in framing the Indian Constitution, he said.
"When he took office as the finance minister in 1974, the rate of inflation was as high as 24 per cent, there was drought and the country was facing the adverse effects of inflation. But when he demitted office, inflation was in the negative and country had achieved many positive results," Mr Mukherjee pointed out.
He also fondly recollected the days when Subramaniam had guided him on how to deal with Parliament, how to answer questions and deal with other members. "I cannot forget the valuable lessons he taught me," he said.
Speaking during the occasion earlier, Union home minister Mr P. Chidambaram praised Subramaniam stating that he "was a scientist among scientists, an administrator among administrators and statesman among statesmen. C Subramaniam is an era."
"India will always be grateful for him for freeing the nation from hunger," Mr Chidambaram said.
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Mr K. V. Thangkabalu briefly spoke on the contributions made by Subramaniam for the cause of Tamil and the state of Tamil Nadu.

People such as Mr. Subramaniam make a real contribution to people's well-being and deserve to be commemorated as an example for others. This also serves as an example for other countries: real heroes are seldom career politicians or military figures and usually people who simply cared for the welfare of others. Bravo India.

Here are details  RBI

RBI had issued notice on 3rd Feb 2011 about circulation of subject coins and after approx 4-5 weeks these coins are available (only with dealers not with general citizens)

RBI Notice indicate usually  standard statement "The Reserve Bank of India will shortly put into circulation coin"

Does any one shed some  light,  how much is lead time after notice issued by RBI for circulation of  such coins.

Cheers   ;D
