Unusual Modern C/S on 50 Pence Peice
« on: July 31, 2010, 06:53:56 PM »
Here is a 50 pence piece I found with a cool Mason C/S on it. Never had seen anything like this. Found this in a 50 pound world coin lot I bought last year.

Not aware of any countermarked UK decimal coins excpet those done for propaganda in Northern Ireland.
I don't recognise the logo however.
always willing to trade modern UK coins for modern coins from elsewhere....

The freemason symbol. I'll leave it to you to find out what the A and the G stand for :D

I agree with andyg that this looks like a private countermark. The punch seems well done, though.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

I'd argue that all countermarked UK decimal coins are countermarked privately, it being an offence to do so!
As this is the only coin I've seen with this stamp on, I don't think they were mass produced or done for any real purpose.....
