My favourite is the German printed 5 DM with Europa and the bull - a unique and well designed and printed banknote.

Ah yes, you wrote about that (with a link to your images) earlier in this topic. That first series issued by the "Bank Deutscher Länder" was interesting because it had partly new and partly old designs: The 5, 50 and 100 DM notes were new; for the 10 and 20 they re-used the American-style notes except that "Banknote" was replaced by the bank's name. :)

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Now I do not collect paper money, but last year I came across this note (well, a note like this one):

The Norwegian 500 kr note features a nice portrait of the young Sigrid Undset.

By the way, just today the German "FAZ" published an article about the history of money. At the bottom they show the first 10 DM note; note the caption which says that the first DM notes looked like US dollar notes. They really did. :)

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Lady Lavery yet:

More information about Hazel Lavery's connection with Irish banknotes here.

Ah Hazel Lavery, and so much more to the story than the wikipedia article even alludes to.  She was a memorable figure in Irish history for many more reasons than banknotes.  Nothing more to say.
