Dear Friends

I hear that GOI has finalized design of coins on Commonwealth Games.

Design will have CWG logo (Mashaal). You may recall that several months ago I predicted the design of these coins in one of my posts.

Coins are likely to be issued on 28 Sep or 3 Oct in Delhi

There will be three coins of Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 100. They will be issued by Kolkata Mint.

Hi friends,

A teaser of coins commemorating the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth games is up on the Kolkata mint website (www.igmint.org) homepage.

I saw the design on the igmint site and it is just another ho-hum design. I was thinking this being 2010 they will release a full set of coins with all sports being depicted.  :)

Just like Canadian quarter dollar coins commemorating Vancouver winter Olympics? That would have been great, but Indian designers aren't as smart as Canadians ;D ::)

My source in RBI has informed me that the commonwealth games' commemorative will be issued for circulation very soon. They have received bags of this issue but they yet have to receive government's order to start their distribution.

No news regarding the other commems (Teresa,CS,Tuka movement) though.

Couldn't find the image of the coin on internet, but found an image of two commemorative stamps issued by India post. They are indeed very beautiful.. :) (image shows Rs 5 stamp,a similar stamp of denomination Rs 20 has also been issued) Let's hope that the design on the coin will also be a good one...

I think that the coins must have been issued today for circulation in Delhi at least, on the occasion of inauguration of CWG 2010 today.

I booked my order today and was surprised to find the Tagore and Rajendra Prasad coins up for re-booking. I had missed the Bhagat Singh, Braille, etc. ones when they came for rebooking/restrict, and hope I get these at a later date. I will appreciate if someone points me to sellers selling these at reasonable rates. :)

Friends

Incidently Proof as well as Unc sets of Bhagat Singh were issued in three different presentation booklets. There is a slight difference in spelling etc. Two are well known - Sagat Singh and Bhagat Singh.

There is also a little known third version.

Please don't ask me to reveal all...
