I think the booking will start in 2012 and the delivery will be made by 2013. Do not worry be Happy Collecting coins

Lets hope Mumbai mint delivers the coins before Tanjavore temple celebrates 2000 years.  ;D ;D

But on a serious note; Mumbai mint is preoccupied with RBI Platinum Jubilee Proof/Unc sets. Its a sensible decision to hold back booking of Tanjavore & C Subramanyam coins till mint completes earlier order of RBI sets.

It reminds me of earlier days. In those times, mint used to book coins without planning the production. So coin collectors had to wait for 18-24 months after depositing the money.

On the other hand if booking is synchronized with production; the waiting period can be curtailed... :D  :D

Quote from: kansal888 on September 27, 2010, 10:50:26 AMI understand that GOI is using Sterling Silver (92.5% Silver) in the 1000 Rs coin against quaternary alloy (50% silver) being used till now for high denomination coins.

The Rs 1000 coin is made of .800 silver, .200 copper.

Dear Dr Schon

I agree with you that the silver content in the coins is 80%.

However please appreciate that my post (92.5% silver) is dated 27 Sep 10 (one and a half years back) ; when the coin was just released. At that time, firm information regarding the metal composition was not available.

Dear Dheer

Most of the high denomination commemorative coins are issued in Quarternary Alloy with 50% silver. The Brihadeeswarar Temple coin was issued on a blank having 80% silver. The blanks with 50% silver are standard and available in plenty. So booking was started for ICMR & Civil Aviaiton. The blanks with 80% silver will take some time. Brihadeeswarar Temple booking will commence as soon as mint is able to arrange special blanks

So no need to worry.

another scam in the making.  regular issues with special blanks and special issue with regular blanks.   time to buy testing equipment as part of collection accessories
