Doesn't look incuse or reversed like I would expect a medal die to be.

I think this is not a die but a punch. A punch is a piece used to make dies and dies make coins and the like.

The St. Christopher design is quite common, as Chris is the patron saint of travellers. It figures on good luck medals, keyhangers, thingies hanging from driving mirrors and what not.

Oh I am quite familiar with St Christopher and that design in particular.  It sure didn't look like a die to me and was curious of other's opinion.  Interesting item to me as I do have some Austrian medal dies.  The Austrian Artist Arnold Hartig did one, of course VERY similar to this,  and I had hoped this one was his but I see no signature on the image.  If It had I wouldn't have put a link here till later  :D

You don't have to worry about me, Dale. I collect coins i.a. because they don't take much place. In principle. As long as you don't have thousands.

So what's the childing holding? Or is that a sig?

You know, I am not sure.  I had assumed it was a palm branch alluding to the legend of Christopher's staff being stuck into the ground and it growing into a palm tree.  Either that or an ollive branch (peace).  Suspossingly the child is the Christ that Christopher was carrying across a raging stream.  It is a wonderful legend and makes interesting reading if anyone wants to do a quick bit of an internet search.

I never saw the child with something in his other hand. Sometimes the globe is on the left, sometimes in the other hand and sometimes there is no cross on the globe. It's very difficult to see, it seems like a sign, but sorry, now I'm not sure anymore.
Also on the Internet websites concerning Christopher (we say Christoffel -in Dutch) nowhere the child has something in the other hand. Because I like to know too I asked the seller ;D and wait for his answer.
