That's a neat find,Mumba! Do you deal with large number of coins everyday? ;) The only Ni-Brass coins I have got in change here are the definitive issues-2009 (plenty,very common now) and 2010 (one so far).. ::) But again no luck in finding mint mark variations,whatever coins I find are born in Mumbai.. :D

No aditya, i dont have anything to do with large volumes of coins or sources connected to anything similar. all these are circulation finds by myself or my family/friends. all one needs is patience! Loads of it :)

Enjoy the hunt for coins as much as the find itself, its like an adventure, there is always a story associated with each find.

For the first time,I got a cross 1 rupee coin dated 2005 (Hyderabad mint) in change.(Not exactly me,but my Mom).Undoubtedly it's in bad condition,but I was SHOCKED to see it here... 8)

I found one such coin from circulation today :)

The 1 rupee cross coins are plentiful in circulation at my area. I have been able to collect more than 100 from this variety. But none of 1 rupee cross coins for the years 2004 or 2006 are found in circulation.

2004 Cross were apparantly never released for circulation. A few of them found their way out of the mint / RBI and were sold at fancy 4 & 5 figure sums till recently. Then all of a sudden prices fell a couple of months back when they were sold on e-bay below Rs. 1000. I picked up 4 2 months back @ 100 each.

2006 is also a scarcer date as there may not have been a lot of minting of these coins or possibility is that they were minted but never released for circulation. If it is the later, may be some day you will find more of these than 2005. However, for the Rs 2, 2006 are easy to find and it is the 2005 which is scarcer.

Amit,
The reverse is the case in my area. Here 2 rs, 2005 is plentily available where as that of 2006 is available in less quantity.

How much shall I have to pay if would be kind enough to arrange 1 rupee cross of 2004 and 2006 from the sources known to you for my collection? Please intimate me.

Thank you.

The cross 2 rupees coins (dated 2005 and 06) aren't so difficult to find here,but they aren't so common too.May be one or two in the lot of say 50-60 coins...

@beekar:
If you are collecting Indian coins by type,then you really don't have to worry about the scarce dates like 2004.But if you are a date collector then it's a different story..One of the forum member (part time dealer may be) was selling cross 1 rupee coin for 600 bucks... :o

Aditya,
I collect Indian coins by date. So the 1 rupee 2004 is required by me. But I am not prepared to pay such a huge amount 600/- for that coin. I will wait until it gets cheaper.

Thank you for the information.
