I don't think that these bimetallics will ever circulate. These coins are pretty heavy compared to their face value, and people generally won't prefer to carry 10 tenners instead of 10 banknotes of 10 rupees :D So unless you specifically ask a grocer or a shopkeeper for the tenner, the chances of getting them in change are almost negligible..

Even In Baroda, the bimetallics circulate very rarely, you have to be very lucky indeed to find one. I would have asked atleast 100 odd Chaiwaalas, Laari waalas and what not places. After so much of begging I could find a few pieces as nobody is willing to part with them due to novelty factor. But still the Unity in Diversity, Homi Bhabha and and the new 300 Centenary coin is yet to find way into my collection.

Is the bi-metallic unity in diversity coin considered rare?

I really don't think so,but I don't think that it will circulate either.2005 dated pieces are most difficult to get(current price is near 300 bucks),you will never find it in circulation.2006 is the most common date(you should get it below 20 bucks),2007 again is somewhat difficult to get.(current price here in Mumbai is 50!)

If you plan to collect the bi-metallic 10 rupee coins by year then this is a good time to get it. In later years getting 2005 and 2007 will be more expensive. About a couple of months back the 2005 prices had crashed to 100-150 in Bangalore. Like others I had picked this coin for 300 last year.

None found in circulation in Baroda after searching for months together!!!. :o
Only seen 1 piece with a Ahmedabad dealer who was quoting 35 bucks for it (dont recall the year though). I'll have to buy from Ahmedabad once I go there in June end, no options. :-\ :'(

Will the Rs 10 Gur Ta Gaddi coin be ever found in circulation, any hopes? ::) ???

Rs 10 Gur Ta Gaddi is an NCLT issue and will not be released for circulation. There was a long discussion on this point earlier.

Found a well circulated FSS 2007 1 rupee mudra coin from kolkatta mint. Pretty neat to find it in circulation in Mumbai, but what i found a bit unusual was the reeded edge. Not as strong as found in the earlier versions (till 95 rupee coins) but still pretty visible. Will try for a pic of that..

anyone want to confirm/deny any such thing exists? or is it my old eyes seeing things and playing tricks on my mind...

on Bimetallic series, still have to come across a hyd coin :) in Mumbai

Bimat

A rupee coin with reeded edge-that's amazing! Haven't heard of any such recent issue. These are called wonders of Indian mints ;D

And you won't come across any tenner from Hyderabad mint(I mean in circulation),because Hyderabad mint hasn't issued it for circulation, just a collector's piece.

Hey Mumba

Didn't know there exists a coin in the bi-metallic series from the Hyderabad mint - discounting the single coin set of Gur-ta-gaddi - which is not a circulation issue.

I have not seen (or perhaps should I say noticed) a reeded 1 rupee coin  2000 onward. That would be most unusual. Perhaps you should test your photography skills once again :)

After a long time I was in Delhi and my taxi driver (who helps me by keeping all coins he comes across till I have seen and removed the ones that I need) had a bagfull of them for me. I found  7 Braille (Kolkatta), 4 Shastri, 5 ONGC, 3 RS 10 cross, One Re 1 cross, 10 Rs 2 cross.......it was a surprise. Never seen so many circulating commemoratives in Ahmedabad......ever. It seems I was lucky.

the wonders of circulation :)... makes me feel nice and optimistic when someone post like this!

I am also there on another board (mostly of Americans) where they have this nice thread titled "roll searchers". this thread is somewhat similar to that :).

The next best thing to holding/owning a coin is that to hear a fellow numismat finding it in circulation... guess i am not a dealer friendly person :)
