The Almohad Caliphate (خِلَافَةُ ٱلْمُوَحِّدِينَ , lit. 'those who profess the unity of God') or Almohad Empire was a North African Berber Muslim empire founded in the 12th century. At its height, it controlled much of the Iberian Peninsula (Al-Andalus) and North Africa (the Maghreb).
Abu Ya'qub (أبو يعقوب, also known as Yusuf I  (يوسف), was the second Amir or Caliph of Almohad dynasty. He reigned from 1163 to 1184 in Marrakesh. In 1170 he invaded Iberia, conquering Al-Andalus and ravaging Valencia and Catalonia.
