From the little I know if Indian coins, I know that most of them feature Gandhi. :) I suppose he is the George Washington of India.

Patney

At Times a large number of VIP and VVIP sets are ordered by the Orgainsing committe for issue of a coin, where later on come into the hands of the dealers and collectors, but where only a few VIP sets are made, then it is difficult to get one, but now some dealers have started supply fake VIP sets, due to there huge Demand, ordinary coin sets is open and carefully repacked into a fake VIP Packing, which command a very high price in the market., So be careful with the VIP SETS.

Well, it could be true, Mr. Patney. But as I have mentioned earlier in this thread, normally, a mint Token/Medal is also included in the VIP set, which is not the case with the ordinary Proof Sets. Yes, but I agree that to get a hefty premium, the dealers can go to any heights.

Though I don't collect VVIP/Proof/UNC sets, thanks for the warning! Almost similar things happen in Europe where they have produced Euro Premium Sets ::)

Yes.He is already present on all the Indian banknotes, you will also find his photo in every government office (which practically do not follow his path!).Personally I'm not fond of portraits on coins, but I have no rights to approve the designs of Indian coins ;) ..

That is not correct. He does appear on a few coins of India including the second ever commemorative coin of post indipendent India and in a few coins there after. However as Aditya said, he is seen on all bank notes issued in the past almost 20 years. Earlier Indian bank notes had no portraits and then all of a sudden, Gandhi appeares on them. There after all notes, whether Rs 5 or Rs 1000, all of them have the same design. Almost like the UK, where the queeen is there on all Bank notes. Unlike the UK, we do not have him on almost all coins.

I know Gandhi isn't on most coins. That's why I placed the small smile symbol at the end of the sentence.

Mr. Abhay

Now the VIP Sets issued by the Kolkata Mint does not have a token of Proof Sets and the VIP Sets Issued by the Mumbai Mint, also does not have the Proof Set Token, it is only Printed or enbossed in the Plastic Sheet of the Packing.

Abhay

OK, Mr. Patney. In that case we may say that if the VIP set is being offered when the bookings has not started by the Mint, and if the VIP set is being offered just after the release of the Coins at some function, then there are chances that the set being offered is actually a VIP set.

But I feel that there is no use of purchasing a VIP set, as the Coins are the same, until and unless you need the coins in a Plastic Packing with a velvet box.

Dear Friends

Both the mints have stopped issuing mint tokens with VIP sets. Kolkata Mint has completely eliminated the tokens. Mumbai mint has started printing /etching the token on plastic presentation packs. They are nowhere near the metal tokens

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

@Peter: You may have to change the spelling of "Rajendra" in the Title of the thread, its wrongly written.
