Hi. I would like your help in trying to identify the last digit of the year of this 5 soldi coin from Savoy
This type https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces189223.html is pretty rare, and identifying the correct year makes a difference. What could be the last digit? I have already  an 1700 in a better status, so I hope it is another one of the series :)

I looked at the picture before reading your text, and thought (therefore without advance prompting) that it was 1700 (sorry!). I'm not familiar with the issue and therefore don't know which dates are possible, but I guess if it exists, 1706 is feasible, if the 6 has a very low, horizontal tail, as was often the case in that era.

FosseWay

Yes, the 6 is low and horizontal as I suggested, so this could be an alternative for yours. But I'm not sure either way.

The picture on Numista confirms that on the 1700 coins, both zeroes are of the same shape on height. The CGB picture shows that on the 1706 coin, the 6 is of the same shape as on your coin. The tail is not as long as suggested. Rather, because of wear, it look like the dot behind the date is part of the tail of the 6.

In theory, the last digit could be a 5. In practice, what remains of the last digit does not fit a 5. The only remaining option is 1706.

An unidentified coin is a piece of metal. An identified coin is a piece of history.

Thank you!
I then add it to my collection as an 1706 :)
